Hello Everybody,
I'm new here and would like some help setting up my new '08 Prophecy.
The problem I have is that the ski feels really tippy out of the turn. In other words, it feels like the I will go out of the front if I ski like I normally do.
These are the current settings.
67" ski with draft bindings
Bindings 28"
Tips .60"
Length 7.0"
Depth 2.59"
I rode the ski once and think it will be great once I can dial it in a little more.
Thanks,
Garrett
Wade might have better numbers, but this is where I would start:
Back of front binding at 29"to 29.25"
depth 2.505
length 6.755 jaws
length 6.855 tips
dft 0.755
wing 9
Thanks Chris
Please explain how I set the wing to 9
Thanks
Garrett, you need a set of wing angle gauges. If you don't have access to some, I'd run without a wing until you do. Unless you're up into 28 off and above, you're not seeing a benefit from the wing anyway for the most part. Most definitely get that fin and binding setup correct because you are really far away as it sits right now.

The only way to adjust fin length is by buying a new fin, right?
For a good start on wing angle try this link and print it out.
Use it as a template to cut out the appropriate angle for your ski on cardboard or thin plastic.
Not super accurate but a good starting point.

All you need to know about adjusting you fin is on this site at this link.
No, you don't need to buy a new fin. After reading this article you will know why.

Sorry,
This link is only how to measure using calipers not on how to adjust.
Somebody else may have a good link on how to adjust your fin.
Its not hard it just takes patience to get it perfect.

I understand how to adjust the fin depth, the dft, and the wing.
I don't understand how the actual length of the fin could be adjustable. It's a piece of metal that is a certain dimension. It seems to me that you would need to buy a different fin if you want a shorter one or a longer one. Am I right in thinking that?
Garret, length of the fin is controlled by the front of the fin. Depth is controlled by the back. For the most part. You adjust length by moving the front of the fin. Essentially, you're cocking it sideways. Now in doing so, you will generally make it deeper also. So then you have to shorten the back and remeasure, then add depth to the front again and recheck all.
I would rough in the distance from tail dimension of the fin first. Once you get that, measure the depth and get that closer to your desired number. When doing depth, only move the back of the fin not the entire fin down or up. Then measure length. If it's too long, you raise the tip of the fin back into the ski. If it's too short you will lower the tip out of the ski.

Here's a good thread..........

Chris,
I set the ski up per your recommendations and the ski is still super tippy. I went out the front hardcore last night.
Any suggestions? Maybe this ski is not for me?
By the way, I felt right at home on the '05 D3 I ran last season.
Thanks,
Garrett
Is the ski rolling over too much or is it grabbing in the turn and pitching you forward? What boots are you running on the ski? On which side did you fall? What foot forward are you?
The ski is grabbing and pitching me forward. I feel like I really need to consciously get on the back of the ski across the wake.

I fell on my off side
Right foot forward
Thanks for your help Chris
Garrett
What holes are you in with your draft boots?
Front binding - second hole back counting from the front of the boot.
Back binding - first hole counting from the front of the boot.
Any suggestions?
Maybe I'm on the wrong ski for me?
I would start in the middle holes with the settings I gave you and let me know how that goes.
Moving the bindings to the middle hole made a tremendous improvement. Overall, the ski feels much more stable and predictable.
Having said that, I'm still not skiing as aggressively in the turn. I hesitate to make more fin changes though, because it might just be a result of it being so early in the season.
If I were to make a fin change to ease up on the turn radius of the ski, what would it be?
I still have the fin where you recommended.
Thanks.
What speed and line length are you skiing at? What do you run mid season?
32 MPH
15 Off now
22 Off Mid season
I would ski it as is right now and get used to it. After a few weeks, check back in and we can talk about desired changes. Enjoy the ride.
Thanks Chris.
Good luck at the Masters.
Help me understand why moving my bindings forward actually helped the ski feel less tippy?
Obviously it works but it sounds counter intuitive.
