i dont know how many more pro events there are this year, but please keep posting whatever info you have as far as live coverage. i'm bummed i missed this last one, but i never know when they're going down so i dont look for them often enough. i got a coaching lesson from Nick Parsons this summer and would of loved to see him ski in a tournament. so are 39 off passes pretty rare happenings at the tournys or are they getting ran frequently?
39s go down at pro events with some frequency, if the conditions are decent.
As far as live coverage goes, there will be a webcast this weekend. We'll have the stream posted at the top of the site, with a live chat going as well. Come stop by on Saturday and Sunday to see some rippage! Could see a couple world records this weekend. Karina Nowland tied the women's world record, 1@41 at Diablo Shores last year. Regina tied it this last weekend as well -- and Parrish tied his 1.5@43 off twice this past weekend. Should be a great event.

The Diablo Shores Pro Am Tournament drew thousands of spectators and participants to last year’s event in Brentwood. This season’s competition kicks off Sept. 11 and runs through the Sept. 13.

For the past eight years, Greg Badal has been quietly organizing one of the nation’s largest pro water skiing events right here in Brentwood, and this year’s forum is shaping up to be more of the same.
“We had about 5,000 people come out last year and we’re expecting even more this time,” said Badal, who directs the project with his wife, Debbie. “Every year it’s gotten bigger and better.”
The Diablo Shores Pro Am Tournament, sponsored by Dublin Toyota and Dublin VW, will splash into Brentwood’s Diablo Shores Lake the weekend of Sept. 11-13, featuring top-notch competition from some of the world’s best water skiers – including world record holder Karina Knowlen – and more than $70,000 in cash and prizes. Proceeds raised from the event benefit the Brentwood Police Activities (PAL) program.
The tournament is free to the public, and offers a unique opportunity for recreational skiers to mix and mingle with professionals in a low-key, relaxed setting; something most venues don’t offer.
“What is unique about this is that it’s a pro am event with families and professionals in the same venue,” said Badal. “We attract beginners all the way to the professionals. It’s a nice weekend.”
New this year to the tournament will be a legends division, showcasing such world-class skiers as Andy Mapple, Carl Roberge, Bob and Kris La Point and Lucky Lowe. New to the event is a live Web cast throughout the weekend.
For Badal, the event is all about good will, sporting competition and championship exhibitions. “We’re just trying to promote the sport and do it in a very family-friendly, no-alcohol venue,” said Badal. “We invite everyone to come on out, bring your lounge chair and a blanket and enjoy the weekend. It’s a lot of fun.”

Yes, Sunday may get too windy for big scores, right now Saturday looks good. FYI, the lake runs north-south.

Wade - Great background info on the pro skiers' seasons in preparation for this big event, great to know what has been going on
I was really hoping to go this year and support fellow Canyon Laker Scott Larson. Oh well I guess I'll be doing the same! (webcast). I think (like you) we could see some records broken this weekend! Exciting times for the world of Waterskiing!!!
just looking at the article about diablo... wow... those are some big predictions..
Open Women
Whitney McClintock 1 @ 41 - 10.25
Regina Jaquess 5 @ 39 - 10.75
Karen Truelove 4 @ 39 - 10.75
Open Men
Chris Parrish 2 @ 43 - 9.75
Will Asher 5@ 41 - 10.25
Chris Rossi 3@41 - 10.25
whitney making it a 4 way tie for the women... and parrish taking the record... that would be awesome to see if the records actually happen...
steven i agree... working for a living sucks....
I think these guys/girls are riding a high right now and have the momentum and confidence to bust out some big scores this weekend. I've also heard that Badal's site ski's real well! It's too bad Jamie B. got screwed out of the title in Lacanau! That's a BIG score! It can happen there this weekend. Come on webcast!
Whit's been skiing 39s in practice all year... could go DOWN!
glad its a westside broadcast, so I can sleep in tomorrow...
good job on putting this out there, just watch some of the 3 sisters tourny, that I didn't even know had a webcast!!!
Looks like the women will be on the water at around 9:30AM western time - 11:30AM eastern. Stop by the Live Chat Room to talk about the webcast as it happens!

From the Diablo website rules
The time in the water will be 50 seconds on the 1st boat and 35 seconds on the 2nd boat. The time in the water will 35 seconds for each skier thereafter.
Can someone explain this. I assume it relates to the head to head run off. it seems the skier who goes first as a 15 second advantage. I'm sure this is not the case.
Whilst on the subject of rules, in Pro-Am team events do you think the pro skier should be allowed in the boat to 'coach' his team?
The reason that the first skier gets more time is because the second skier has to ski down the lake... and I don't think it is necessarily an advantage because as the first skier you sit in the water for a really long time on both ends. 35 seconds is more optimal -- 30 seconds is what the regular time limit is. So blowing that out to 50 seconds is almost distracting, not to mention that body temperature can plummet. Most of the guys sit on the platform for that time, but your feet are in your boots, and then when you advance, you have to go to the dock and in some cases get ready to ski immediately.
As far as pro-am rules, having a pro skier in the boat to coach may not be a bad thing.... but I think it would depend on the individual as to whether or not this would actually be a help. I'm not sure I would want a pro in the boat telling me how to ski -- I would want to just do it. But that's me. I don't see a problem with it... Pro-Am rules exist only for fun and to grow the sport, so if it would do that, more power to it.
See you in about 3 hours for the webcast!
