As I was having my ass kicked by my Concept-2 today I started thinking about the music I choose to work out to, and then I wondered what sort of workout music the other kids prefer. When I first started listening to music while working out we were pretty much limited to one album in the 8-track player at a time, so there wasnt a lot of variety in a session. For those of you too young to know, an 8-track was what we called MP3 players when I was your age.
Anyway, in the spirit of discussing all things even remotely related to skiing, heres one of my typical workout play lists its medium-high energy and just about what you would expect from someone old enough to have owned many 8-tracks (my Ipod is a first-generation mini, if that says anything):
>in no particular order<
Further On Up The Road - Eric Clapton (live)
Mama told Me Not To Come Tom Jones & The Sterophonics
Whammer Jammer/Hard Driving Man J. Geils Band
Devil With the Blue Dress Wilson Pickett
Walking in Memphis Lonestar
Turn Me On Kevin Little
Blinded By The Light REO Speedwagon
Shambala Three Dog night
Jukebox Hero Bad Company
We Get Around Urthboy
Rock and Roll Star (acoustic) Oasis
Stay With Me Rod Stewart
Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show Neal Diamond
Back In The High Life Steve Winwood
Tubthumping Chumbawamba
Devil Went Down to Georgia Charlie Daniels Band
American Band Grand Funk Railroad
Going Down For The Last Time Head East
Gimme Three Steps Lynyrd Skynyrd
Walk This Way Aerosmith
A Life of Illusion Joe Walsh
Superfreak Rick James
Rockaria ELO
Eclectic and mostly old school for sure, but it works for me.
Anybody else wanna play...?

yeahhh i'm a fan of diversity... 6311 songs, and i Love it all!
I'm more a fan of listening to albums than turning on random.
So here is what or who will be playing when I get down to it.
Joe Satriani
John Petrucci
Eric Johnson
Paul Gilbert
King Crimson
Queen: usually Queen I or Sheer Heart Attack
Iron Maiden: usually Number of the Beast or Peace of Mind
Richard Wagner (symphonies make for interesting pacing while doing cardio)
I have a nasty habit of paying more attention to the music than the workout, so more often than not I nix the music: particularly when technique is important. It's way to much, "Get off my lawn!" for my not particularly advanced age, but I just have to deal with being a young old codger.

+1 for not breaking up albums, Satch, JP, and Queen. Excellent choices! I am not a fan of "mixes" at all. I thought I would be the only one with this opinion. I listen to my music one album at a time rather than one song at a time. Music is a big part of my life and I have hundreds of albums that I cherish, I just do not usually listen to music broken out from an album. It's like cutting up a bunch of legendary paintings to make a collage.
Shoot, I left out Rainbow
and honorable mention to Pearl Jam and Them Crooked Vultures.
I do need to hijack this tread briefly.

Jaw to the floor, drooling like one of Pavlov's dogs.
"Mmmmmm, Heavy Metal"
I love you full album guys... anyone wanna buy a used 8-track?
